Intelligent E-invoicing for Belgium's B2B Peppol Mandate
Belgium's mandatory B2B e-invoicing via Peppol is live from January 2026. All VAT-registered businesses must exchange EN 16931 structured invoices using Peppol BIS Billing 3.0. InvoStaq's AI engine audits every invoice inside your ERP before it reaches the Peppol network — zero errors, zero fines.
Your AI Shield for Belgian Peppol Compliance
Belgium has mandated structured B2B e-invoicing through the Peppol network for all VAT-registered businesses, effective 1 January 2026. Peppol is explicitly designated as 'the primary format and transmission method' in Belgium. Every invoice must conform to the Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 standard (EN 16931 / PINT) and be transmitted via a certified Peppol Access Point. Companies may only use alternative formats if both parties agree and the invoice still complies with EN 16931. Non-compliant invoices will be rejected.

B2B (Business-to-Business)
Domestic B2B e-invoicing is mandatory from 1 January 2026 for all VAT-registered businesses. All invoices must be exchanged in EN 16931 format via the Peppol network using Peppol BIS Billing 3.0. A 3-month tolerance period is offered to companies that began implementation early.
B2G (Business-to-Government)
Belgium mandated e-invoicing for public procurement via the Mercurius platform (aligned with Peppol). Phased in since 2022: contracts ≥€215k (late 2022), ≥€30k (mid 2023), and <€30k (late 2023). Invoices under €3,000 are exempt. All public authorities must receive/process EN 16931-compliant e-invoices.
B2C (Business-to-Consumer)
There is currently no e-invoicing mandate for B2C transactions (consumer sales) in Belgium. Traditional invoices (paper/PDF) remain allowed for business-to-consumer transactions.

Legal Framework & References
Key Belgian regulations include the Federal Public Procurement Act (7 April 2019) and implementing Royal Decrees (e.g., 9 March 2022) for B2G e-invoicing. The B2B mandate is established by the February 2024 VAT Code amendment (Bill of 6 Feb 2024). Belgium's e-invoicing law requires EN 16931 e-invoices transmitted via the Peppol network, with the Mercurius platform serving as the central hub for B2G invoicing.
